Inside a Real Regal Coronets Wedding: Motunrayo & James
Every event we plan starts the same way: a conversation, not a contract. For Motunrayo and James, that conversation happened months before their wedding date, long before any vendor was contacted or any décor concept was sketched out, and the direction it took shaped everything that followed over the course of their entire planning journey.
The First Meeting
When Motunrayo and James first sat down with our team, they didn't come in with a fully formed plan or a long list of specific requests. They came in with a feeling, a sense of the kind of day they wanted to create, and it was our job to help translate that feeling into something concrete.
This is actually how most of our best events begin. Clients rarely arrive with a complete vision already mapped out, and the couples who try to force one too early often end up with something that looks good on paper but doesn't quite feel like them once it's actually assembled.
The Vision
Motunrayo and James came to us with a clear feeling in mind, even before they had the specific details worked out. They wanted their traditional ceremony to feel rich and genuinely rooted in culture, honoring the customs both families expected and valued, but without losing the personal, intimate feeling they both cared about deeply. They were explicit about one thing from the very first meeting: they didn't want a wedding that felt like a copy of everyone else's, they wanted one that felt unmistakably like them.
This is a balance that's harder to strike than it might sound. Traditional ceremonies come with an inherent structure—certain rites happen in a certain order, certain items are expected, and there's limited room to deviate from that without upsetting the families involved. The challenge, and the part we found most creatively engaging, was finding where personal expression could live comfortably within that structure, rather than fighting against it.
Getting the Details Right
From the color palette down to the exact sequence of traditional rites, every decision on this event was made with their story in mind, not a generic template pulled from a previous wedding. Our team worked closely and directly with both families to make sure every cultural element was honored precisely and respectfully, consulting elders on sequencing and requirements rather than assuming we already knew.
At the same time, our design team focused on bringing a modern, elegant visual identity to the day: from the floral arrangements and their placement, to the seating layout, to the smaller styling choices that most guests wouldn't consciously notice but would absolutely feel—the way a room is lit in the late afternoon versus the evening, the specific texture of the fabrics chosen for the backdrop, and the small personal touches placed at each table.
The Day Itself
On the day of the ceremony, our coordination team managed the entire event from behind the scenes: vendor arrivals and setup timing, adjustments to the schedule as small delays inevitably happened, guest flow between different areas of the venue, and the countless small fires that needed putting out before anyone in attendance ever noticed there was a problem.
"Could I have survived planning my wedding without you? Regal Coronets truly came to our rescue... Thank you for making the experience truly remarkable with us."
One of the moments our team remembers most clearly was a last-minute adjustment to the seating arrangement after a change in the number of attending family representatives. Instead of causing stress for the couple while getting ready, it was resolved quietly before anyone outside the coordination team even knew it had happened. Motunrayo and James were free to actually be present in their own celebration, greeting family and taking in the moment, rather than fielding logistics questions.
The Outcome
What stayed with our team most, long after the event itself wrapped up, wasn't just how beautifully the day came together visually. It was hearing directly from the couple afterward that they felt genuinely present for their own wedding, without carrying the stress and mental load that so often comes attached to a day like this.
Weddings like Motunrayo and James's are a reminder of why we do this work in the first place. It was never really about the flowers or the timeline on its own, it was about giving two people the space to actually experience one of the most significant days of their lives.
